Noël Coward’s Present Laughter follows self-obsessed actor Garry Essendine in the midst of a mid-life crisis. Juggling his considerable talent, ego and libido, the theater’s favorite leading man suddenly finds himself caught between fawning ingénues, crazed playwrights, secret trysts and unexpected twists.
Regional Premiere (in previews Sept. 26, 39 and October 1). DARWIN IN MALIBU written by Crispin Whittell, directed by Rebecca Greene Udden.
Malibu, California. The present. One hundred and twenty years after his death, Charles Darwin (‘the Devil’s Chaplain’) is hanging out at a beach house overlooking the Pacific with a girl young enough to be his daughter. His peace is rudely disrupted when his old friend Thomas Huxley (‘the Devil’s Disciple’) washes up on the beach, closely followed by the Bishop of Oxford, Samuel Wilberforce. These three find themselves entangled in an enthralling and thought-provoking comedy about God and science.
PLEASE NOTE: Patrons will be required to wear masks and show their vaccination card or negative COVID test result (within 48 hours) prior to entering the theater. Photo copies or a photo on your phone of medical records will be accepted.
Joel Sandel reprises his unforgettable portrayal of Robert F. Kennedy in an on-line only production of RFK: A PORTRAIT OF THE LIFE OF ROBERT F. KENNEDY for Main Street Theater. Written by Jack Holmes and directed by Rebecca Greene Udden, the one-man show is a compelling journey through the last four years of RFK’s life from the 1964 assassination of his brother, President John F. Kennedy, to his own death by assassination in 1968.
“Sandel's portrayal of RFK gave this one-man show a sense of gravitas and charm fit for America's best-known family.” — THE HOUSTON CHRONICLE (for the 2016 on-stage production)
Joel Sandel will be featured in the Fort Bend Symphony and Chorus's concert musical production of Meredith Willson's The Music Man as the iconic musical con man, Harold Hill. The concert will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 19, 2019, at the Stafford Centre.
